Both platforms focus on scientific collaborative authoring: Overleaf is an online LaTeX and Rich Text collaborative editor and publishing tool and ShareLaTeX is an online LaTeX collaborative editor and reviewing tool. Their rich feature set includes: pure LaTeX editor, rich text editor (Overleaf only), real-time collaboration, real-time PDF preview, author comments, track changes (ShareLaTeX only), version control (w/ Git access) and export as PDF & LaTeX.

Overleaf and ShareLaTeX are joining forces, bringing their teams and services together as they continue to build great tools for collaborative authoring. Over the coming months, they will be working on merging Overleaf and ShareLaTeX together into a single service while making the transition as smooth as possible.

Here is how to claim your CERN account on Overleaf and ShareLaTeX:

If you are new to Overleaf

1. Start by signing up for a new account using your CERN email address at www.overleaf.com/signup.
2. After you sign up, Overleaf will ask you to confirm your email address and choose a password.
3. Once you confirm your CERN email address and choose a password you automatically join the CERN Site Licence.

If you already have an account on Overleaf with your CERN email address

1. No need to do anything, you’ve automatically joined the CERN Site Licence.

If you already have an account on Overleaf with your personal email address

1. Start by logging in at www.overleaf.com/users/sign_in.
2. After you login, go to www.overleaf.com/org/cern, click on “Add an email at European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN)”, enter your CERN email address and click on “Add email”.
3. After you add your CERN email address, Overleaf will ask you to confirm your email.
4. Once you confirm your CERN email address you automatically join the CERN Site Licence.

If you are new to ShareLaTeX

1. Start by registering a new account using your CERN email address at www.sharelatex.com/register.
2. After you register, ShareLaTeX will invite you to join the CERN Site Licence by verifying your email address.
3. Once you verify your CERN email address you automatically join the CERN Site Licence.

If you already have an account on ShareLaTeX with your CERN email address

1. Start by logging in at www.sharelatex.com/login.
2. After you login, go to www.sharelatex.com/user/subscription and ShareLaTeX will invite you to join the CERN Site Licence by verifying your email address.
3. Once you verify your CERN email address you automatically join the CERN Site Licence.

If you already have an account on ShareLaTeX with your personal email address

1. Start by logging in at www.sharelatex.com/login.
2. After you login, go to www.sharelatex.com/user/settings and change your personal email address to your CERN email address.
3. After your change your email address, go to www.sharelatex.com/user/subscription and ShareLaTeX will invite you to join the CERN Site Licence by verifying your email address.
4. Once you verify your CERN email address you automatically join the CERN Site Licence.
